Today starts Public Health week which this year is emphasizing injury prevention –Did you know the University of Vermont Medical Center is actively involved in Injury Prevention and Care? This week, we will post injury prevention education on falls, burns, car crashes, and other top injuries. Also, this week you can win a Child/Infant Car Seat! Keep reading to find out how.
Injury Prevention at the UVM Medical Center
The UVM Medical Center actively works to educate the community about ways to prevent injury – whether through our SafeKids Vermont childhood injury prevention program to our PHaT (Protect Your Head At All Times) ski helmet education program. Community Health Improvement staff is actively working in community outreach to raise awareness of injury prevention through education.
Trauma Care at the UVM Medical Center
The UVM Medical Center is a Level One Trauma Center. Why is that important in relation to injury prevention? As we all know, injuries can happen no matter how much we do to guard against them. Having a Level One trauma center in Vermont is critical to managing those injuries. A trauma center is not a just a building or an emergency department – it is a team of skilled professionals that are available 24 hours a day to provide the highest level of medical care to the patients on a moment’s notice.
