Clearly, the secret is out. With over 8,000 unique candidates applying for an average of four job postings apiece, we see an average of 32,000 applications a year! I’ll be honest: it is a competitive process. So how do you go about becoming a the UVM Medical Center employee? Over the next several months, I’ll be going through the various parts of the hiring process to give you some tips to successfully navigate your way into a position here at the UVM Medical Center. This month we’ll focus on identifying the right position for you.
Review the website. All of our open positions are posted on our website at www.uvmhealth.org/careers. We update the site every day – so check back often.
Read the posting. The posting will include the details of the position, including shift, number of hours each week, and the minimum qualifications of the position. Make sure to read the entire posting – there is often valuable information at the bottom about the department and the qualifications that we are looking for. Read these items closely, so you can ensure that this position is a good match for you.
How do you know if a position is a good match?
Finding the right position for you isn’t always easy. There are logistical questions such as do you want to work the shift that is available? Night shift isn’t for everyone, trust me. Or do you have the experience and education that the position is asking for? Often, you are better served applying for one or two positions that you are well qualified for, and passionate about, than applying for many that you may not be.
Another important piece of information here is the name of the Recruiter for the position. If after reading the posting, you still have questions, you can contact the appropriate Recruiter by calling 802-847-2825, Option #3.
