This will be the seventh year in a row that The UVM Medical Center ICU team will plunge into Lake Champlain in support of Special Olympics Vermont.

We started off in 2009, originally as the Pulmonary Penguins, but converted to the Fletcher Allen Arctic Suns in 2010. Now, we are the University of Vermont Medical Center Arctic Suns, named after a cooling device used in the ICU for post-cardiac arrest hypothermia induction.

Our core team members (who have participated almost every year) are Dan Weiss, Sarah Weiss (Dan’s daughter), Sandy Michaud (MICU nurse), Sean Diehl (UVM researcher), and me. Others have cycled off and on the team.

Over the past seven years, we have raised more than $12,000 for Special Olympics of Vermont. This year, we are at $1,250 currently and hope to raise even more before February 7!
