Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men; however, most men with prostate cancer are over 65 and do not die of the disease.

The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2019 there will be about 174,650 new cases of prostate cancer and about 31,620 deaths from prostate cancer.

There is a screening test for prostate cancer called the Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test. It is not clear how useful the PSA test is for some men. When prostate cancer is detected there is also conflicting evidence on what, if any, treatment should be followed. Because of conflicting evidence on both PSA testing and the treatment of prostate cancer, it is especially important that men understand their choices so they can work with their doctor to decide on the best plan for them.
