Summer has a tendency to wrap up all too soon. Suddenly, we’re surrounded by “Back to School” sales everywhere we look, and we can sense a touch of fall crispness in the air. August isn’t over yet though, and there’s still time to make the best of it before the kids head back to school.
To add a few more adventures to the agenda, here is a list of activities you can enjoy with the family. Even after the school year kicks off, you can take advantage of weekend adventures to enjoy the fall foliage as it begins to show its vibrant colors.
Picnic with a View
There are a lot of great hikes suitable for the whole family in the Green Mountains. One of our favorites is Mount Philo, located in Charlotte, Vermont. With an easy terrain and a short hike to the summit, you’re rewarded with incredible views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains. Makes for a great spot to picnic and relax.
Enjoy Some Food Truck Fun
Use the handy Food Truck Finder from Seven Days to find the next food truck gathering near you. It’s a great way to sample some light bites and new cuisines. A popular event for kids is the Leddy Park Beach Bites, occurring every other Wednesday. The two upcoming dates are August 23 and September 6.
Running until the end of the August, every Thursday night from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Enjoy a celebration of farms, local food, and vendors. Live music, kid-friendly activities and free admission, need we say more?
Have an End of Summer BBQ
Plan a final summer BBQ with all of your family’s favorite snacks and side salads. Have some fun with it and create colorful kabobs mixing in chunks of veggies or fruits! Check out our Pinterest boards for some recipe inspiration.
We hope these ideas inspire you to make the most of every last day of summer with your kids. It’s great for them to have a few more days of spontaneous fun before heading back to a classroom routine. Enjoy!
